Meet Thomas - Master Craftsman & Founder
Thomas's journey into fine furniture craftsmanship began in 2020 during an unexpected turning point. When the pandemic brought his previous work to a halt, what started as a necessity became a passion that would transform into Artesão - Fine Furniture.
From Garage to Workshop:
The story began humbly in the family garage, with early projects spilling into the kitchen - literally pushing the dining table aside to make room for his growing craft. What quickly became apparent was that Thomas had found his true calling. The operation soon outgrew their home, leading to the establishment of our current spacious workshop where Thomas and his team create heirloom-quality furniture today.
A Foundation Built on Diverse Skills:
Thomas brings a unique blend of technical expertise to his woodworking. His background in construction and years spent climbing and building internet and cell towers instilled in him an unwavering attention to detail, precision, and safety - qualities that translate beautifully into furniture craftsmanship. Growing up in a "handyman" family, he learned invaluable home maintenance skills from his parents, developing the confidence that if anything needed work, he could always figure it out. This mechanical aptitude was further demonstrated in his young adult years when he completely rebuilt a sports car engine after it blew, adding his own custom modifications to make it truly his own. This technical foundation, combined with his exceptional problem-solving abilities and unwavering determination to complete any task, allows him to tackle complex custom projects that others might shy away from.
The Spark of Creativity:
His first true woodworking masterpieces tell the story of a craftsman who refuses to accept limitations. A jewelry box for his wife featuring intricate mother-of-pearl inlays showcased his attention to delicate detail, while a completely custom guitar amplifier and speaker set - for which he designed the wiring schematics and completed all electrical work himself - demonstrated his commitment to mastering every aspect of his craft.
A Lifelong Learner:
Thomas embodies the spirit of continuous learning, constantly refining his techniques and exploring new possibilities in woodworking. But what truly drives him is his love for creating pieces that are both beautiful and functional - furniture that serves a purpose while bringing joy to the families who will treasure them for generations.
The Vision:
Today, Thomas leads Artesão with the same passion that drove him to transform his garage into a workshop. His vision remains clear: to create heirloom-quality furniture that families will pass down through generations, each piece a testament to the marriage of traditional craftsmanship and innovative design.
Family at the Heart of Artesão
Behind every piece of Artesão furniture is a family that truly understands the value of craftsmanship and creativity. Thomas shares this journey with his wife, who brings her own woodworking background to the business. Having grown up in a creative family herself, she actually spent more time in woodworking shops during her youth and young adult years than Thomas did (working on much simpler projects… Thomas is the true mastermind!) While you can still find her lending a hand in the workshop when needed, her primary focus these days is the delightful challenge of keeping two energetic toddlers at least in the same vicinity - because getting them in a line is simply impossible!
This family foundation is what drives Artesão's commitment to creating heirloom pieces. As parents, Thomas and his wife understand the importance of building something that will last - furniture that will witness countless family meals, homework sessions, and celebrations for generations to come. Their children may be too young to appreciate the craftsmanship now, but they're already learning the value of creating something beautiful with your hands, surrounded by the warmth of family and the scent of fresh wood shavings.
